Rizal Alih Biography: Everything you Need To Know About Former Police Officer

A former police officer named Riz Alih, in 1989, led a group of policemen that held 12 military men hostage, including two generals, during the Camp Cawa-Cawa siege.

  • Alih led a 3days siege which led in the death of former Brig. Gen. Eduardo Batalla, Col. Romeo Abendan, and other hostages.
  • Alih and his boys were arrested and questioned for their alleged action in the 1984 murder of Zamboanga City Mayor Cesar Climaco.
  • Alih took his hostages, including Batalla, following a fight about Batalla’s transfer to Manila.
  • After they were done with the Cawa-Cawa siege, Alih escaped to Basilan and then to Sabah, Malaysia.
  • The Royal Malaysia Police arrested Alih on the 21st of July, 1994, in Sandakan, Sabah, charging him with illegal possession of guns.
  • Alih He was extradited to the Philippines in the year 2006 and served his prison term there.
  • He filed a libel complaint against the director Caparas and his wife for their portrayal in the film “Zamboanga Massacre.”
  • Alih died at the age of 77, on the 14 August, 2015, inside the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Quezon City.
  • His remains were brought to Zamboanga City, buried alongside his brother, over 400 persons attended the burial.
  • Alih’s life and the Camp Cawa-Cawa siege are remembered and commemorated, including in the film “Zamboanga Massacre.”
