– Jabu Mabuza has resigned from his post as chairman of the board of Eskom
– This came after the ANC’s Pravin Gordhan criticized the board for deceiving President Ramaphosa about load-shedding
– The party has welcomed and praised Mabuza’s resignation, saying he’s acting with responsibility
Eskom chair, Jabu Mabuza has stepped down from his position amid the current crisis at the power utility. His resignation came one day after Deputy President David Mabuza slammed the board for misleading President Ramaphosa about load-shedding. According to SowetanLIVE, Mabuza resigned on Friday, 10 January.
Gordhan accepted Mabuza’s resignation from the post he held since 2018
Viral Afrika gathered that Khusela Diko, the president’s spokesperson, said:
“In his resignation letter, Mr Mabuza apologised for Eskom’s inability to meet the commitment it made to the president, the deputy president and the relevant ministers at a meeting on December 11, 2019, to avoid load-shedding over this period.”

The leading party has praised Mabuza’s resignation and says he displayed accountability and responsibility. The Economic Freedom Fighters also welcomed Mabuza’s decision, but feel more should be done if Eskom is to be saved, according to News24.
They feel his resignation is long overdue. The party also wants Gordhan to be next to leave his post. He’s currently serving as Minister of Public Enterprises.
